Updated: Disturbance on Mountain Street causes heavy police presence

SUDBURY, ON - Greater Sudbury Police responded to a disturbance on Mountain Street in Sudbury around 6 o'clock on Monday November 11th, 2019

The road have been closed and police are asked the public to avoid the area at this time.

Police say they received information regarding an assault with a weapon at a residential building where a suspect was still present. All areas were checked by police but no evidence was found to corroborate the incident.

At this time it is believed that this was a "swatting" incident. Swatting involves making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.

Anyone with further information relating to this call is asked to contact police. The Greater Sudbury Police Service thanks those impacted during this investigation for their patience.
