Sudbury Native, Alex Trebek the host of Jeopardy!, announces Stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis

Sudbury Native, Alex Trebek the host of Jeopardy! host, announced today that he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

Trbek said via his YouTube announcement that he is making the announcement in keeping with his long-time polcy of transparency and because he wanted to prevent people from reading overblown or inaccurate reports.

He goes on to say that he is going to fight the disease and continue to working and even jokes that he has to beat it because his contract to host Jeopardy is for another three years.

"Hi everyone, I have some news to share with all of you and it’s in keeping with my longtime policy of being open and transparent with our Jeopardy! fan base. I also wanted to prevent you from reading or hearing some overblown or inaccurate reports regarding my health. So therefore, I wanted to be the one to pass along this information."

"Now, just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working. And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease. Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years! So help me. Keep the faith and we’ll win. We’ll get it done. Thank you."

From a neighbour in Sault Ste. Marie, ON...

You will be in my thoughts and prayers for a complete healing. Looking forward to at least 3 more year of seeing you on Jeopardy.

Dear Alex

I want you to know that I consider you a dear friend. I live in Sudbury Ontario Canada and you have come to my living room for a half hour 5 days a week for many years. I love everything about the show and I am not even knowlegable enough to answer more that one question three times a week, but I love to watch people that can buzz in and answer your questions so quick.

My grandson, when he was 4, who is now 28 yrs old once answered my brother when he asked," Who's the smartest man in the world?" Zak answered, " Well everybody knows it's Alex Trebek"

Alex please know that God loves you and is with you every minute. He will never leave you so you have nothing to fear. You are in my prayers and I do believe you will beat this and I will continue to have our visits until your contact is up.

God bless you my friend.
