The Greater Sudbury Police DEU in collaboration with Toronto Police as an extension of Project Kraken, executed several search warrants and made several arrests over the past couple months resulting in the seizure of $250,000 in drugs and cash.
On May 5, 2019, the Greater Sudbury Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) received information that a large amount of Fentanyl was en route to Greater Sudbury from Southern Ontario.
Officers attended York Street and observed a vehicle being operated in a suspicious manner.
Just before 11:00 p.m. members of the Tactical Unit approached the vehicle and identified themselves.
Upon searching the vehicle, members of the DEU located over 227 grams of Fentanyl and approximately $8,000 in cash. The street value of the drugs seized is close to $79,000.
The 16 year old young man from Toronto has been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Breach of Recognizance.
The young man cannot be named as he is a Young Offender.
Just after 8:00 p.m. on June 21, 2019, members of the DEU assisted by members of the Tactical Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) Search Warrant at a hotel on the Kingsway in Greater Sudbury.
Upon entry, Officers located and arrested a man inside the hotel room. While searching the room, Detectives located almost 30 grams of Fentanyl with a street value of over $8,600 and approximately $30,000 in cash.
24-year old, Houssein Hassan of Toronto was charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Controlled Substance and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
On June 23, 2019, the DEU received information that a significant amount of drugs was en route to Sudbury from Southern Ontario. Shortly after 7:00 p.m. Detectives located the vehicle travelling on Highway 69 near Whippoorwill Road.
Members of the DEU, Tactical Unit and Uniform Patrol attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle tried to flee in the car, striking an unmarked Police vehicle. Officers were able to arrest both the driver and the passenger without further incident.
25-year old, Devon Lewis and 22-year old, Omaid Rahmani both from Southern Ontario were charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Controlled Substance.
While searching the vehicle, Detectives located over 230 grams of Fentanyl with a street value of over $92,000.
On June 26, 2019, the DEU received information that a significant amount of drugs was being transported to Greater Sudbury from the Greater Toronto Area.
Shortly before midnight, Officers saw the vehicle in question in a parking lot on York Street. Members of the Tactical and DEU approached the vehicle and placed two men under arrest.
Upon searching the men and the vehicle Officers located over 176 grams of Fentanyl with an approximate street value of $70,600.
42-year old, Edward Greco of Sudbury was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
45-year old, Eric Rivard of Sudbury was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.
Just after 3:45 a.m. on June 27, 2019, members of the DEU assisted by members of the Tactical Unit executed a CDSA Search Warrant at a residence on Eyre Street in Greater Sudbury.
Officers located Oxycodone and Fentanyl, as well as, over $2,700 in cash.
33-year old, Trevor Poland of Greater Sudbury was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance x2 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

The Integrated Crime Team aims to identify and disrupt organized crime in Greater Sudbury through innovative technology, collaborative partnerships and traditional Police work resulting in the arrests of those involved, holding them accountable for their criminal activities and the seizure of illegal drugs, prohibited firearms and proceeds of crime.
