Inquest into the Deaths of Normand Bisaillon and Marc Methe Announced

Dr. Dave Cameron, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Sudbury Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the deaths of Normand Bisaillon and Marc Methe.

Mr. Bisaillon, 49, and Mr. Methe, 34, died on May 6, 2014, while working underground at the Lockerby Mine, owned by First Nickel Inc.

Both men worked for Taurus Drilling at the time of the tragedy.

A total of 12 charges were laid under The Occupational Health and Safety Act.

First Nickel was found guilty on six charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Taurus Drilling was found not guilty on four charges.

An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.
