3.5 magnitude seismic event in Onaping

Several residents of Greater Sudbury report feeling and hearing a seismic event around 2:20 am on February 8th, 2019.

Earthquakes Canada detected an event around 2:23 in the Onaping area measuring a 3.5 magnitude at 46.57 North, 81.18 West at 10km below the surface.

The event comes only two days after a 2.9 magnitude event was trigger by Garson Mine.

A spokesman from Vale confirmed the event originated at it's Creighton Mine around 2:20 am this morning as a result of mining activity. The company says there were no employees underground at the time and it will assess damages once the area has been deemed safe.
