Updated January 7th, 2019 1:00pm: Around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019, a green Buick four-door sedan travelling at a very high speed, left the roadway and struck a rock cut on Big Nickel Road at Municipal Road 35 in Greater Sudbury. The collision resulted in the death of the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.
Officers from the Greater Sudbury Police Service Traffic Management Unit attended the scene and began an investigation.
Due to the extensive injuries sustained by the driver as a result of the collision, the individual’s identity has not yet been confirmed. Greater Sudbury Police are working in collaboration with the Centre of Forensic Science to obtain a positive identification for the individual.
Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating any witnesses that may have been in the area at the time of the collision and anyone who may have information about the vehicle involved.

Greater Sudbury Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Elm Street in the area of Big Nickel Mine Road in Sudbury just before 11:30pm on January 6th, 2019.
Police are requesting that motorists avoid the area and find an alternate route at this time.
